I haven't bought a shed yet, but I was hoping to buy one with a metal floor so I could erect it on the lawn without having to dig/lay a base for it.

You would be safer building block under it never have anything on turf as the damp will settle in

I would think it will rust. Also a lawn isn't necessarily level and prone to movement. No need to put a concrete base just concrete a few blocks or bricks enough for support (level them) to raise shed off the ground several inches.

It is possible tp build it direcly on the ground. The ground needs to be as level as possible for the structure to be square and the door to operate properly. You might want to put a pressure treated 2x4 under the base to minimize any corrosion or rusting to the metal.

yes you can do this but it will rott without the proper base. also mositure will come and go more easier, however if this is not a concern then go for it. the shed will last a long time but not for ever if not set up right

You could but it may not be the most stable or level. The damp would be a problem. A good concrete base is always best. it will make the shed a lot more sturdy in strong winds providing you bolt it down to it thus giving the shed a longer life saving you money in the long run Have fun
